Jonathan Swift

Well-known satirist writer Jonathan Swift born to parents who had been living in Dublin, Ireland. Swift's father died shortly before he was born and his mother therefore, put him under the care of a governess. Swift was an angry and rebelleous boy who was not good in his studies. But he managed to obtain his degree from Trinity College in Dublin and was given the post of secretary of an English nobleman. Later Swift got a political post in Ireland.

Two years later Swift was ordained a priest of the Anglican church, but he became more interested in politics than in the church. Swift wrote political newspapers for both the party and Tories from time to time. His many essays and poems brought him fame and the people loved to read them. In the year 1726 he published his Travels into several Remote Nations of the World by Lemuel Gulliver, first a surgeon then a captain which later became Gullier’s Travels.
